2021 Annual Appeal

Dear Friends of the Digestive Health Foundation,

We hope you and your family are well and thriving. As we all emerge from the Covid-19 pandemic, moving forward with medical research and education has never been more vital. This past year, the DHF supported some exciting, leading-edge programs, including:

The Center for Artificial Intelligence and Mathematics in GI (AIM-GI)
Launched by the Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at Northwestern Medicine, the AIM-GI team has developed the first ever artificial intelligence diagnostic to assess esophageal function and disease. These physicians and engineers have developed the first virtual organs of the gastrointestinal tract to test how they respond to various surgical procedures and treatments.

Ongoing Research
The DHF funded 13 research grants in 2021, bringing our total to 68 grants in six years, and we continued to support the Elizabeth Blackwell Fund for independent women GI researchers.

We have also invested in an innovative nano-string technology focused on immunobiology and IBD research. The Division is one of only ten centers in the world to have this technology!

Community Outreach
Additionally, we continued our support for the DHC Community Health Colon Cancer Screening and the “I Am Abel” MCAT preparation program that provides resources to under-represented students as they prepare for the Medical School Admission Test.

We hope you will consider joining us as we continue our mission to support critical digestive health research to improve the lives of patients and their families.
