Dear Friends of the Digestive Health Foundation,
We hope you and your families are safe and healthy.
While we all find ourselves in uncertain times with the current Coronavirus pandemic, the importance of medical research and education has never been more vital. As we band together to adapt our fundraising efforts, the Digestive Health Foundation (DHF) has not wavered from its mission. The research must and does continue!
DHF helps fund the research of physicians and scientists at Northwestern Medicine Digestive Health Center to help prevent, treat and ultimately cure a spectrum of digestive disorders. These diseases include: colon, pancreatic and esophageal cancers, Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, celiac disease, swallowing disorders, hepatitis and other liver diseases, among others.
Despite the challenges of fundraising this past year, DHF has been able to fund studies of pancreatic tumor development, evaluate immune responses in children with Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD), and focus on alternative approaches, such as diet, cannabis and behavioral interventions, to treat chronic diseases.
2020 has highlighted the outcry for greater equality in all areas of society, including access to medical care and education. DHF has been supporting the Community Colonoscopy Clinic (free prevention, education and care to the underserved) and the Elizabeth Blackwell Fund (independent female GI researcher support in honor of the first US woman to receive a medical degree). To continue expanding this exciting work, DHF has created the DHF MCAT Prep Program to provide funding, resources and mentoring to underrepresented students as they prepare to apply for medical school.
We are incredibly grateful to continue our ongoing support of critical research, education and impactful initiatives and we know we cannot do it without you. In light of the current landscape and pandemic uncertainties, the Digestive Health Foundation is unable to gather at the annual 2021 DHF Gala, our key fundraising event. Your support this year is more important than ever.
We hope you will consider joining us as we strive to find more effective treatments and cures, so that patients and their families have a better outlook for the future.
Please help us change the future of digestive disease.
With deep gratitude,
Lee A. Gould
